The Pavilions Hotel... Terranora’s best kept secret is out!
Updated: Mar 14, 2019
The Pavilions Hotel Terranora opened in December last year much to the delight of locals and day-trippers to the area. Situated within The Pavilions Marketplace, a village of boutique shops on the corner of Terranora Rd and Henry Lawson Drive at Terranora, the large three level hotel offers a friendly atmosphere, quality pub fare with sweeping mountain range and river views right to the ocean.
The hotel is the creation of Mal Sipple and Andrew Cox, or the Jolly Publicans as they affectionately known, who are long-time friends and work associates with a vast knowledge of the hotel game and a great deal of passion for people.
They had been speaking for a number of years about embarking on their own venture and are lucky to have found the site in Terranora. “We were looking right along the Coast as far as Gladstone and Rockhamption to the north and as far down as Ballina to the south [for the perfect hotel]. When we stumbled across the Hotel in Terranora it was quite a relic. We both saw the potential immediately. We looked at the immediate vicinity and the region in general and it ticked our boxes for a lifestyle change, together with the potential to be a very community-driven hotel,” Mal says.
In addition to the unparalleled views, the entire venue has an indoor/outdoor atmosphere. Surrounded by bifold doors that create an open venue feel patrons only ever have to walk a few steps to get to the bar. The coastal chic design is carried throughout the venue (think a lot of VJ panelling, weatherboard, whitewashed walls and greenery, very much a Hamptons feel).
The food is reasonably priced with a focus on quality that satisfies even the most discerning diner. Along with the regular menu, Head Chef Julian DeRidder runs wild with menu creations and the speciality boards change daily. They have recently introduced daily food specials such as ‘Pamageddon’ on Mondays - three to four different types of parmigiana.
As for personal stand out meals, Andrew mentions the lamb rump and the 200g rump steak, “it may be a small cut of meat but clearly bats above its average for taste and flavour. We decided to go to that next level and it’s all Nolans Private Selection Meat”.
The roast vegetable & polenta medley is also a dish worth mentioning, a combination of complimenting flavours - a menu favourite and popular even with non-vegetarians.
The impressive centre bar is fully stocked with 16 beers and cider on tap, including craft beers, Send It Pale Ale, Stone & Wood Pacific Ale, Little Creatures Dog Days, Balter XPA and Furphy. With rotating taps, they will soon be introducing Balter’s Captain Sensible, a 3.5% beer, along with various products from Burleigh Brewing and soon, Currumbin Valley Brewing. With beers and wines on constant rotation, there will always be a great variety of beverages.
The hotel is open from 10am daily with lunch available from 12pm – 2pm and dinner 530pm – 830pm. Bookings or queries can be made on 07 5633 5833.
